STOKESIDE PRIVATE SKATE BOWL
The design sketches were refined with build able measurements and sections for formwork. Consideration for how Cameron skates and his preferred terrain determined the radius and blend section. Texture is an overlooked element in skateboarding. The raw concrete lip to coping blends create a textural feel that is still functional, with the 600m radius extensions being a challenging roll in/roll out feature in itself.
Grinds up or down set the corners and hip up in each direction. Mellow hip as per drawings and mini door with 300mm carving room retained, channel has been deleted as it impedes lines. Not shown is a slight fall towards the mini door for drainage. 60mm outside diameter coping set 12mm up and 10mm out. 1800 radius transitions are whippy enough to suit Cameron’s skateboarding yet not to the point where it is a place to learn new tricks or too whippy for rollerskates in consideration for sessioning with his partner. Rails will still touch for feeble and smith tricks and the 1500 section will be challenging and compliment the raw noping edge. 1000mm platforms are about the smallest practically allowable and are sized as such to minimise concrete required.
This is the perfect backyard bowl.
